Gro-Market Logistics expands operations

Leading Pick and Pack and Supply Chain service supplier Gro-Market Logistics, (GML) has recently expanded its Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) operations with additional Regional Distribution Centres (RDCs) in NSW and Victoria.

Gro-Market Logistics now has five RDCs, with the most recent relocation being in Victoria.

According to Nigel Jesson, National Logistics Manager, the RDC expansion is due to the continued growth of the business and will allow GML to service its client base more efficiently.

“With five strategically located RDCs GML now has the ability to service each region with the fastest possible turnaround,” Jesson says.

“We also operate two business entities out of the five RDCs; our Gro-Market Logistics business and also our GML Pick and Pack operations, allowing us to pick, pack and despatch 2500 orders each week for our clients.”

As a GML Group company, Gro-Market Logistics operates as a separate legal entity focusing on providing full warehouse and bulk palletised product distribution services to Grocery, Pharmacy, DDS and Foodservice DCs throughout Australia from Gro-Market warehouses in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

The company also provides individual or small pick and pack services direct to retail or service outlets such as grocery, beauty salon, department stores, pharmacies and a variety of gift and specialty stores from GML PnP warehouses in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

GML Group specialises in warehousing, FMCG DC delivery and Pick and Pack individual item Supply Chain management.

The company sees itself as a premier organisation, amongst very few capable of managing a client’s entire inventory operations structure from replenishment, pick up at plant and/or wharf, through warehouse management to delivery.

In addition to the GML Group Head Office being based in Queensland, the group also has two Queensland Distribution Centres; a 2,300 square metre facility in Richlands and a 4,000 square metre facility in Rocklea.

The Rocklea DC was selected because of its flexible space offerings.

The move to set up operations in New South Wales was driven by the requirements of GML’s major delivery locations with the FMCG Grocery Chains becoming more nationally focussed.

New South Wales has two Distribution Centres; a 10,500 square metre, 13,000 pallet positions, facility located in Glendenning and a 3,000 square metre facility at Yennora.

The newly re-located Victorian Distribution Centre is a 8,300 square metre, 8,000 pallet position facility located in Derrimut.

The move in early 2009 to a larger facility allows GML and its clients more scope. The location was considered to be ideal, given the delivery destinations and the locations of their transport partners.

“GML Group has the ambition and flexibility to expand its current facilities, and develop locations in other states and New Zealand, as the opportunities arise,” Nigel Jesson says.

“Project development of 3PL facilities in partnership with GML Group clients is a feature and skill base within our operation.”
