Rescue helicopter for Gladstone

Four companies constructing LNG plants on Curtis Island in Gladstone have funded a rescue helicopter for the projects.

The chopper will be dedicated to respond to medical emergencies for workers on Curtis Island, as well as those working on mainland LNG construction sites.

Steve Nelson from Careflight says it will also be available for other emergency services across the region.

"We certainly do work in with the rescue service to supplement their service to the community, however, we do stress the fact that Careflight offering is principally funded and measured to support Curtis Island LNG developments," he said.

Rod Duke, LNG industry representative and vice president of Santos GLNG, said the service would ensure workers received the best care.

“This is about ensuring the safety of our workforce and giving them the peace of mind that a dedicated medical helicopter will be ready if needed.”

It is expected that close to 9000 people will be employed during the height of construction of the four LNG projects.

The helicopter service contract will run for five years.
