South Australian Freight Council appoints new Independent Chairman

The South Australian Freight Council (SAFC) has announced the appointment of former Adelaide Airport Ltd Managing Director Phil Baker as its first Independent Chairman.
Baker drove several multi-million projects at the airport, including the runway extension and development of the new air terminal.
Baker is also Chairman of the Adelaide Convention Bureau, Director of Flinders Ports Holdings which operates the Port of Adelaide and six regional SA ports, Director of Renewal SA and Director of Port Hedland International Airport Group of Companies.
“I am looking forward to working with the freight and logistics community in South Australia to ensure our industry can compete with the best – both in Australia and around the world,” Baker said. “Every productivity improvement we make in the transport industry results in more competitive South Australian exports, and better prices on local supermarket shelves.”
In accepting the role, Baker said he intended to drive change ‘from within’, in particular to reform internal operations and to see SAFC become more responsive to its member and stakeholders needs.
SAFC thanked outgoing Chairman Peter Taylor for his leadership during a transitional period within the Council, and said it was delighted he will remain on the SAFC Executive Committee as Rail Representative.
