Dubbo’s $10M bridge upgrade to boost freight efficiency

Works have begun on the LH Ford Bridge strengthening upgrade at Dubbo, which is expected to improve safety for road users and increase efficiency for higher mass limit vehicles.
The NSW Government has provided $10 million in funding to extend the bridge’s service life, improve safety and increase efficiency for freight.
The LH Ford Bridge first opened in 1969 and was the fourth longest highway bridge in NSW at the time, measuring at 613 metres long and built from precast reinforced concrete segments.
Strengthening work will involve the construction of two new piers in the Macquarie River and works to address the sag in the bridge.
NSW Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said the upgrades to the bridge will allow it to carry vehicles weighing up to 68 tonnes.
“The two new piers within the Macquarie River will provide better support for the span over the river and stabilise the sagging of this span,” Mr Grant said.
Work is expected to be completed by early 2020.
