CEVA Logistics has deployed Automated Mobile Robots (AMR) at its super-site in Truganina, Victoria. In a world-first for the global logistics provider, the Goods to Person (GTP) implementation has already delivered a 400 per cent increase in the speed of operations within the 250,000 sqm facility.
CEVA’s site at Truganina is one of the biggest warehouses in the southern hemisphere and home to many of CEVA’s largest clients in Australia.
At this site, CEVA has made the investment to introduce a goods-to-person AMR solution. The solution is provided by Cohesio Group, one of the world’s leading providers of advanced robotics and AI technologies and part of Körber Group.
The solution utilises Geek+ robots and will improve throughput and picking rates for one of CEVA’s largest e-commerce clients in Australia. With this project, CEVA has found a standard solution which could be scalable across CEVA operations globally and be used for other customers around the world.
“With the scale of CEVA’s operation at the super-site we could immediately see this AMR solution was a very fast and efficient picking productivity and throughput option for us. AMR is the future for e-commerce operations, and we are excited to stay ahead of the competition in offering this kind of solution,” Milton Pimenta, CEVA Logistics’ Managing Director Australia and New Zealand says.
The project took only three weeks to go-live, including the installation of eight robots working across a trial 400 sqm of warehouse space. The AMR robot brings the shelf to the picker, with each robot picking shelves up to 500 kg. The robots are controlled by a centralised control system and all staff pickers have undergone a two-week training induction during the implementation phase.
CEVA worked on a co-investment basis with Cohesio Group during the pilot phase and the companies worked together to create and then deliver a scalable customer centric solution. They will now continue the relationship to deliver AMR robot solutions to other warehouses across the CEVA global network.
“CEVA has a number of clients that they feel that AMR technology could be suitable for. As this was the first pilot for the business it was extremely important that we delivered on our predictions. We worked collaboratively with CEVA in order to ensure that they met their milestones and that the first-ever deployment of an AMR solution company-wide was a great success” Samir Rafiq, AMR Project Manager at Cohesio says.
With offices across the Asia Pacific, Cohesio Group creates innovative technology transformations that span across supply chain and logistics operations. In September last year, Cohesio was acquired by Körber, a leading international technology group.
Cohesio Group’s enterprise-grade solutions range from voice-powered technology that enable hands-free workflows through to new-generation mobility solutions, software applications that provide actionable business insights and retail fulfilment as well as solutions such as Autonomous Mobile Robots that enable automation in distribution centres.
