FedEx expands dangerous goods service in Australia

FedEx Express has announced the expansion of its dangerous goods shipping service to all locations in Australia. It will allow movement of essential items under the dangerous goods classification such as medical life-saving appliances swiftly and securely across much broader areas of the country.

In addition to existing coverage in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra, FedEx will now handle dangerous goods shipments on International Priority services across Adelaide, Perth and all delivery and pickup areas that are remote and less accessible (outside regular postal codes) across Australia, excluding Tasmania.

To utilise the dangerous goods shipping service, customers must ensure that their shipment is in full compliance with IATA‘s dangerous goods requirements and FedEx’s policies prior to shipping via FedEx International Priority services. Products and substances that fall under the dangerous goods category, such as lithium batteries, capacitors, chemicals, and medical equipment, need to fulfill special handling requirements to be shipped safely.

“As a company, FedEx continues to evaluate the breadth and depth of our services in order to support the growing demands of our customers,” said Peter Langley, vice president, FedEx Express Australasia.

“We understand that this pandemic has disrupted many business-as-usual operations for our customers. We remain committed in the end-to-end delivery of goods through our domestic and international network and supporting businesses in their recovery.”

All classes of dangerous goods for this service are accepted, except those categorised under the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Hazard Class 1 Explosives, Class 7 Radioactive Material and Class 6.2 Infectious Substances in Category A (UN2814 and UN2900).
