Port Kembla global investment

Port Kembla Industry Facilitation Fund (PKIFF) recipient, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, a global shipping and logistics operator, will today celebrate the opening of its new Technical Services Facility in Kemblawarra.

One of nine recipients of the Australian Government’s AusIndustry PKIFF fund, the company was awarded $1.123 million towards the development of the new high and heavy vehicle technical services facility.

In addition to the funding awarded, the global company has invested a further $5.6 million towards developing the best-in-class facility in the region.

The move of the facility from its current location in Sydney will be followed by the relocation of the company’s port operations to Port Kembla in October and demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to providing a truly integrated and synergised product.

The head of the Oceania Region for WWL, Lauritz Andersen, says the Kemblawarra site offers great potential for the company and its customers and believes the Australian Government’s funding for development of the Port Kembla region will be of great benefit to local and national commerce.

“Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics is very pleased to be selected as a recipient of Port Kembla Industry Facilitation Fund assistance and we look forward to being a part of the local community,” he says.

“The development of the Port Kembla facilities will be of great benefit, supporting the growth of the Wollongong and Shellharbour communities, the Australian shipping community and Australian commerce.”

Mr Andersen believes the move will result in future growth for the company’s logistics business, as well as having a positive effect on the region’s employment and growth.

“As a global shipping and logistics company, we recognise Australia’s need for world-class facilities and we welcome the opportunity to work together with the Port Kembla community to develop facilities of this standard in the Port Kembla region,” he says.

The Facility will be officially opened by Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells on behalf of the Australian Government at an event onsite today.

The Technical Services Facility complements the shipping and logistics services provided by the global logistics provider, enabling them to offer comprehensive factory-to-dealer services for their vehicle manufacturer customers.
