Recognising the increased demand and substantial market potential for car-carrying containers, Trans-Rak International has signed a 10-year agreement with Chinese container manufacturer CIMC.
The deal will permit the marketing and design skills of TRI to be combined with the market penetration and manufacturing capacity of CIMC. Trans-Rak containers will be produced on a newly built production line at CIMC, with an initial capacity of 10,000 units per year.
The agreement comes as global container shipping lines and domestic intermodal operators continue to benefit from Trans-Rak’s Cars-In-Container solution.
CMA CGM, one of the world’s largest container shipping lines, recently took delivery of its first batch of 200 40ft car-carrying containers. The container operator has now extended this order to an on-going purchasing programme.
“Today, about ten million cars worldwide are transported by car carriers, and another one million are shipped in containers,” explains Alexis Michel, Vice President Container Logistics.
“Flexible, and easy to use, this CMA CGM innovation will strengthen the use of containers in car transport and logistics, particularly in developing nations.”
Trans-Rak containers are also being used for domestic operations. In India – one of the fastest growing automotive markets in the world – Allcargo Global Logistics Ltd is adding Trans-Raks to its operations, enabling it to lead the way in the logistics distribution of vehicles throughout the country.
As one of the India’s largest multimodal transport companies, Allcargo is offering Trans-Rak units for intermodal rail distribution through Bangalore, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Indore and Mumbai, enabling it to interface with all of the country’s vehicle manufacturing plants.
Trans-Rak is an easy-to-operate, retractable, car transport system fitted inside a container.
The frame can be wound up into the roof void of a container, clearing it for other cargo. Containers fitted out with this system hold Lloyd’s Register safety certificates.
Four cars can be shipped in one 40ft high-cube container, which provides protection for the cars against weather, theft and dents.
The cars can be loaded from ground or trailer deck level. Once the cars are driven out of the container, the Trans-Raks then wind up into the top of the container, so that it is ready to load general cargo.
