An innovative Canberra glass and aluminium fabricator has commissioned its first Toyota forklift truck – based on the company principal’s previous positive experience with the Toyota product.
Sohos Aluminium Framing commissioned the Toyota 8-FG15 forklift in February for its material handling needs. The company receives 6.5-metre-long aluminium channel from its suppliers.
Company principal Steve Pomakis asked Toyota Material Handling NSW’s Queanbeyan branch to tender for the supply of the new forklift along with a number of competitors.
He chose Toyota based on his experience with Toyota forklifts during his previous involvement in the aluminium window frame business.
Sohos Aluminium Framing has been in business just over two years, but Steve Pomakis has 30 years’ experience in the industry – based in the Australian Capital Territory.
Office manager Lisa Pomakis says the new company needed a forklift to handle the material that came into the fabricating workshop – “and Toyota had just what we needed.
“The 1500kg Model 8-FG15 is going great,” she says.
“We knew the Toyota forklifts were reliable and the service back-up was good. With our new forklift, we have all the latest Toyota safety features.”
Recent examples of Sohos Aluminium Framing’s work include the showroom front at a leading car dealership in Phillip, ACT.
The 1500kg Model 8-FG15 is one of the most popular models in Toyota’s leading edge 8-Series forklift range.
The 8-Series forklift has a number of safety features – this includes Toyota’s now renowned System of Active Stability that monitors key forklift operations, detecting and counteracting instability to help reduce the risk of tip-overs.
A further safety enhancement is Toyota’s Operator Presence Sensing (OPS) as standard equipment.
