Wing launches delivery service in Queensland

Google’s Project Wing will launch its drone delivery service in Queensland. The service will be available in two suburbs of Logan, one of Australia’s fastest growing areas.

Residents of Crestmead and Marsden will be the state of Queensland’s first residents to have items delivered to their homes, by drone aircraft, within minutes of ordering.
Using the Wing app, customers will be able to order a range of items, from hot coffee to hardware, from three Logan businesses: Extraction Artisan Coffee, Friendly Grocer Crestmead, and Browns Plains Hardware. Upon ordering, Wing drones will then deliver the items to customers’ designated delivery zones, often located in yards or driveways.

Prior to launch, Wing will hold public flight demonstrations in the Logan area to give the community an opportunity to experience drone deliveries in person, and share feedback.

Queensland has been at the forefront of drone technology leadership. Since 2017 it has hosted the World of Drones Congress, bringing together drone aviation industry and academic thought leaders from around the world. This year’s gathering is from September 25–27 in nearby Brisbane.
