IGA launches online delivery service

Australian chain of supermarkets, IGA, is introducing online deliveries with the launch of its new platform, IGA Shop.

This new offering is available in select stores across Australia and maintains Independent Grocery Alliance’s (IGA) ‘family-owned’ approach to the delivery service, providing  customers the opportunity to shop from home and have products from their local IGA delivered.

Shoppers can order from a range of items for the pantry, fridge and freezer via igashop.com.au.

Danielle Jenkinson, EGM Retail Channels, Metcash Food, said the network is thrilled to be able to offer an online service from IGA stores across Australia, to further support its local communities.

“As independent family owned businesses, many IGA stores have been providing online shopping and home delivery services to their local communities for some time,” she said.

“While we prefer to serve our customers face to face, we’ve developed this online solution because we know some of our local shoppers aren’t able to get out to the shops right now or would prefer to stay away.”

Unlike other major supermarkets who have offered online delivery as a competitive advantage in the market for multiple years, Danielle said IGA “aren’t yet experts at home delivery, so please bear with us as we iron out any kinks and improve the online shopping experience”.

“It’s definitely not perfect, but we’ve built this solution quickly to ensure that IGA retailers are able to continue to support their local communities as only they know how.”

The launch of IGA Shop is another demonstration part of the retail market shift to heightened e-commerce operations following the COVID-19 pandemic.

IGA Shop also follows IGA’s Priority Shop offering, a service that was introduced amid the COVID-19 global health crisis, to provide local grocery deliveries to those in need.

While IGA Priority Shop was only available to the elderly, vulnerable or isolated, IGA Shop is available to everyone in the community in hundreds of local areas across Australia.

As the stores are local family owned businesses, the range and pricing may vary, and therefore the final cost will be confirmed between the owner and customer.
