New Sydney DC for Kirby and Beijer Ref

One of the world’s largest refrigeration wholesalers has reached practical completion for its new 22,000 sqm Australian headquarters, located at Altitude – a new 162,000 sqm warehouse and industrial development in south west Sydney.

Kirby and Beijer Ref’s new 22,000 sqm facility includes a manufacturing and distribution centre, refrigerant plant, trade store and national training facility, and will become the headquarters for Beijer Ref’s Australian businesses.

The leading refrigeration wholesaler has signed a 10-year lease and is the first tenant to move into Altitude, a new warehouse development in south western Sydney.

The purpose-built manufacturing facility incorporates an extensive fit-out as part of the base build and includes paint booths, welding bays, a network of 28 overhead cranes, reticulation of specialised gases throughout and 4,000 amp power supply.

“Location and quality were key driving factors for Kirby and Beijer Ref, With this new site offering high-quality office space, close proximity to their existing facility and access to Sydney metro in less than 30 minutes, Altitude is a great fit for Kirby and Beijer Ref,” Joseph Ajaka, Project Director at Altis Property Partners said.

Altitude also benefits from flexible zoning and as a result Kirby and Beijer Ref will utilise the site as a showroom.

The new purpose-built facility will revolutionise Kirby and Beijer Ref Australia’s operations and propel both into the future as they upgrade from Kirby’s current campus-style premises in Milperra, which was built in the 1960s. Altitude at Bankstown Airport is a prime location for the business, due to its close proximity to the M5 and M7 motorways and local amenities.

“This new facility will help us to deliver our business strategies and objectives in Australia, acting as our main manufacturing facility, distribution centre and corporate headquarters,” Paul Campbell, Director of Operations at Kirby and Beijer Ref Australia said.

The new distribution centre is a 5-star green star design and includes a 250-kilowatt solar panel installation and a 40,000-litre rainwater harvesting system and serves as one of Beijer Ref’s global showpieces.

Kirby and Beijer Ref Australia worked alongside TM Insight to review their operational requirements, design a bespoke supply chain solution and select the location for the new site, before managing the property procurement and project management of the new build alongside Altis Property Partners and their project partners.
