Financial relief for North Queensland suppliers and producers

Primary producers in North Queensland are set to receive a helping hand after being devastated by Tropical Cyclone Niran.

The Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) will provide financial assistance through freight subsidies and concessional loans to affected primary producers in Cassowary Coast, Cairns, Hinchinbrook, Mareeba and Tablelands.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management David Littleproud says it is imperative to provide a quick response to the situation.

“Primary Producers can now access concessional loans of up to $250,000 to repair or replace damaged buildings or plant and equipment affected by the cyclone and essential working capital loans of up to $100,000,” he says.

Freight subsidies of $5000 are also available to assist with the costs of moving crops, livestock, fodder, water and other farm equipment.

Queensland Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan says the funding was vital to help kick-start the recovery of affected primary producers.

“This activation is critical to providing financial support so that impacted producers can begin to recover from the effects of the cyclone,” Ryan says.

Primary producers seeking assistance can visit www.qrida.qld.gov.au or call 1800 623 946 free of charge.
