Ahrens partner with Cavpower to deliver $20 million facility

Ahrens are continuing to set the bar for outstanding quality and manufacturing excellence by partnering with long-standing client Cavpower to deliver their Service Operations Centre in Gepps Cross.

Having completed a world-class Component Rebuild Centre for the South Australian Caterpillar dealer in 2017, Cavpower chose to continue their relationship with Ahrens as the design and construction specialist to deliver the fit-for-purpose Service Operations Centre.

Ahrens proved the best fit to construct the $20 million facility, working alongside the client to ensure their ‘world class standard’ was met through meeting a number of complex requirements and equipment installations within the workshop layout and design.

The scope of works included a large quarantine capable wash bay, track press, general workshop, new machine build-up workshops, hydraulics, engineering, fabrication, welding, lube truck and spray booth for the painting of Caterpillar components and equipment.

The specialised workshop was comprised of 26 bays fitted with heavy-duty overhead cranes ranging from 12.5 to 25 tonne capacities to hand large off-highway Caterpillar trucks and dozers.

The centre integrated some of Cavpower’s existing operations and support services from its Enfield site, and provided safe movement of personnel, customers and equipment with separated access and egress corridors both external to and within the workshop facilities.

Adhering to the highest standards of safety at all times, works allowed for the safe and efficient receiving and servicing of Caterpillar equipment, more efficient waste collection and disposal systems, improved storage and delivery of parts, equipment, fluids and consumables.

With the ability to deliver bespoke solutions, Ahrens catered for Cavpower’s design requests by including an additional mezzanine fit out. The extra space will house a first-rate training facility for Cavpower’s apprentice programs, training young men and women entering the industry.

A particular focus was on providing an enhanced customer service experience and comfortable work environment for employees, with a 200-person canteen, caterer’s kitchen, alfresco dining area, coffee station for barista-made coffees, and combined offices, stores and amenities.

The facility has greatly enhanced Cavpower’s capacity and capability offering to meet customer needs now and into the future.

The continuation of this long-standing relationship has seen Ahrens secure further work for Cavpower, with the team engaged to commence mobilisation of the next two stages of construction.

Works have started this month on a Parts Distribution Centre and a fluid laboratory, with the future warehouse to be used for both new and used parts as well as a new customer experience and administration area.

Proud to be an Australian-owned family business, Ahrens is the most vertically integrated construction company in Australia with a complete range of in-house capabilities to deliver your next project from concept to completion.
