Pacific National, Linfox team up on Adelaide Freight Terminal deal

Freight and logistics providers Pacific National and Linfox announced yesterday that they have entered into an option agreement for co-location at Adelaide Freight Terminal.

Pacific National CEO Dean Dalla Valle says that intermodal rail services play a critical role in major Australian supply chain links, and that with Linfox’s end-to-end freight capacity, the agreement boosts development of co-location logistics solutions to improve efficiency and service as well as saving on costs.

“With more than 230 million freight TEU-kilometres travelled annually through Adelaide Freight Terminal, the intermodal site is the ‘freight gateway to the west’,” says Dean.

Currently Pacific National’s Adelaide Freight terminal employs 125 staff including train drivers, terminal operators, and maintenance crews. The staff operate a total of 90 rail services in and out of the site each week, deploying interstate freight trains 1800 metres in length.

Dean says that co-locations such as this deal and securing more opportunities for close-to-client locations along Australia’s rail corridors will drive greater safety, productivity and environmental gains within the national supply chain. He says that Pacific National’s network of intermodal facilities and services will be a key part of that process.

“The coronavirus crisis and associated cross border travel restrictions have highlighted the innate power of rail to haul large volumes of freight safely and efficiently across our vast continent while helping to reduce carbon emissions,” Dean says.

Linfox Executive Chairman Peter Fox says this development complements Linfox’s other recent investments in the intermodal rail network for its customers.

“Linfox has a national footprint of strategically located railhead facilities and our new Adelaide investment further enhances our capabilities throughout Australia,” Peter says. “We are extremely pleased to be making this new multi-million dollar investment in a world-class intermodal facility in South Australia.”
