Freelancer acquires digital freight marketplace

ASCI

Freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace Freelancer has added to its global pool of assets, acquiring Australia’s leading digital freight marketplace Loadshift.

Loadshift has received over 73,000 freight requests in the past year with thousands of carriers.

Matt Barrie, Chief Executive of Freelancer, says the sale aligns with the website’s mission to expand on its carriers and community.

“The acquisition of Loadshift builds on Freightlancer’s momentum and continues to deepen our global pool of liquidity for the freight logistics industry, around the world,” he says.

Freelancer spans from complex enterprise haulage to consumer metro deliveries, powered by over 50 million freelancers in 247 countries, regions and territories.

Phil Callaghan, Loadshift founder, says the moment is right to see their successful model brought to the world stage by Freelancer.

“From the beginning, I have been committed to utilising technology to create a connected community of both carriers and shippers. When we started, there was little visibility of trucking capacity. We’ve brought that visibility to the freight community, changing the industry,” Phil says.

The terms of the asset sale were not disclosed.
