New technologies key to Toyota parts distribution centre

Toyota Australia’s new distribution centre in Melbourne is delivering more than 26,000 parts to dealers every day.

Advanced technologies such as automated-guided vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell forklifts and a zero high rack are helping to meet growing customer demand.

New zero-high racking reduces forklift usage by employees and keeps stock storage height below two metres, improving safety and eliminating stock falling hazards.

Heather Box, Toyota Australia General Manager, Aftersales Development and Distribution Division, says the separation from humans and machines has bolstered safety and efficiency.

“We have been able to significantly improve delivery accuracy with the right parts delivered where and when they are needed, while the separation of people and machine means that we have driven even more improvements to our safety environment,” she says.

The number of parts processed per hour has increased by 18 per cent in the new facility which opened last year.
