Global Logistics Company NewCold has bolstered Victoria’s food storage capacity by expanding its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne’s west.

Critical support money from the Victorian Government helped the company invest $147 million into its Truganina cold storage facility.

The expanded site will double in size and boost storage capacity to 225,000 pallets.

The project will create around 200 jobs during construction and 50 new roles upon completion.

Martin Pakula, Minister for Industry Support and Recovery, says the expansion will enhance Victoria’s position as a market of choice for investment in the food, transport, distribution and logistics industries.

“Food logistics is a highly innovative sector and operations like the expanded facility being built at Truganina are right at the head of technological advancements,” he says.

Stage one of the upgrade is underway and will use advanced features to store chilled and frozen goods in NewCold’s multi-temperature and freezer warehouse.

Bram Hage, NewCold founder and Chief Executive, says the announcement is a boost for Victoria’s cold storage industry.

“It is very pleasing to see our continued investment and growth in Australia – We support local communities to foster economic growth and create high-quality employment opportunities,” Bram says.

The expanded facility is scheduled to be operational in 2022.
