Victorian International Container Terminal COVID-19 case

VICT

After last week’s Port Botany COVID-19 cases, the VICT has also closed operations for a day because of one positive case.

The Terminal is working with the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to determine the close contacts and underwent a deep clean.

In a statement, VICT says to “please bear with us while we work through the process to accommodate those bookings that have been affected by the closure.”

“As soon as we have clear direction on our ability to resume operations, we will send that advice via notices. Trucks already inside the terminal are advised to leave without completing their transactions.”

The covid disruption comes after Australia’s first fully automated terminal completed its automation upgrade of Navis’ N4 TOS.

Jon Wheeler, COO at VICT says the modernisation opportunity shows ongoing commitment to optimising operations, reducing turnaround times and delivering unprecedented efficiency in key areas of the terminal – including the gate and container yard.

“By upgrading our TOS through constant collaboration between Navis and our internal automation team, VICT’s focus is to consistently improve operational safety and productivity efficiencies for all our stakeholders” Jon says.

“Since the upgrade, we have seen continuity in uptime, reduced exception handling, berth productivity improvement, and greater efficiencies with our industry-leading land-side operation of multiple containers. We are looking forward to working with Navis and enhancing our waterside operations further.”
