FedEx Express opens southeastern facility

South East Victoria facility

FedEx Express has announced the opening of its new facility in southeastern Victoria to support the growing express freight demand in the region.

The new purpose-built facility spans more than 4987 sqm, is equipped with an advanced automated sortation system that can sort up to 1400 packages per hour.

The facility – located at Morwell – will support businesses, especially small and medium companies in the Gippsland region to access domestic and international markets.

Regional Victoria accounts for 21 per cent of small businesses in Victoria. Gippsland is one of the areas that has seen an increase in small businesses in the past year, making the facility a crucial touch point for connecting intrastate, across the country and across borders. The Gippsland area is estimated to grow to $2.66 billion GPR in the near future.

“FedEx has been continuously strengthening its operational capabilities and innovating its products and services to help local businesses navigate the complex supply chain landscape in Australia,” says Peter Langley, Vice President, FedEx Express Australasia.

“With our wide and deep domestic network within Australia, we support business owners to access their local, regional, and national consumers.

“By leveraging new facilities such as our new Morwell station and expanding regional capacity, we enable Australian businesses to move freight in a faster and more efficient manner to people and businesses across the country – no matter where they are located.”

The new facility is strategically located near the highway, providing excellent accessibility for express pick-up and delivery services to homes and businesses in Traralgon, Leongatha, Sale, Morwell, Moe, Maffra, Yarram, Warragul, and Drouin regions. Additionally, it serves as a domestic and international collection point, providing comprehensive logistic solutions for local businesses.

In support of the FedEx goal to achieve carbon neutral operations by 2040 globally, the new facility is equipped with multi-faceted sustainable building features to reduce impact on the environment. This includes the use of energy-saving LED lighting, as well as collecting and reusing rainwater on site.
