A1 Precision Solutions has just begun work on a new facility for Melbourne refrigerated transport company, ColdXpress.

Thanks to continued growth, ColdXpress has decided to expand its business. But this expansion does not require doing more of the same.

ColdXpress is keeping the current facility its using as a cross dock while building a dedicated cold storage warehouse in a new nearby facility.

This will be a brand new, state-of-the-art cold storage facility that will be used by ColdXpress’ customers. With its existing nearby building becoming a dedicated cross dock, ColdXpress will be able to offer a wider variety of cold supply chain services to customers.

A1 Precision Solutions has taken on this large project, which will involve reinforcing the roof structure of the existing facility to be able to hold the insulated panels, as well as the solar panels that will power multiple temperature-controlled zones: freezer, dry, and chiller.

In conjunction with ICRS, A1 will be building new insulated cold rooms with the associated HVAC units for the facility.

It will also install 12,000 pallet positions worth of selective and drive in racking.

Finally, excavation works will be conducted on the outside of the building to allow for more loading dock space.

This new docking area will expand the total amount of loading docks for the building to eight, requiring excavation, paving, and general building works to complete.

Another major aspect of this project is the purpose-built outdoor plant area. Here, A1 Precision Solutions will manage the installation of CO2 compressors for the new refrigeration system, solar inverters, generator, and the high-voltage electrical infrastructure required for a cold storage facility of this size.

A1 Precision Solutions recently finalised building permits for the new facility and has already started structural roof works. It plans to do as much of the work concurrently in order to avoid project delays.

This means outdoor earthworks for the refrigeration system and plant area, installation of solar panels, and construction of the cool rooms can all happen at the same time before moving to pallet racking installation and excavation for the new and expanded loading bay area.

The project is expected to finish by October 2024.
