Discover Loscam’s innovations at MEGATRANS 2024

MEGATRANS 2024, Australia’s largest integrated logistics exhibition and conference, will be held on 18 and 19 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year’s event is sponsored by Loscam, a specialist in pallet pooling solutions renowned for its innovative returnable packaging systems.

Loscam, well-known for its wooden pallets, provides returnable packaging solutions and equipment used to store and move products through supply chains.

After more than 80 years of operation, Loscam has expanded into a diverse range of products.

At MEGATRANS, Loscam is set to highlight intermediate bulk containers, foldable and rigid produce bins, GPAK stillages for automotive and parcel consolidation, retail returnable packaging, and the new track and trace platform.

“MEGATRANS is a fantastic platform for logistics, offering valuable opportunities for strategic collaboration and networking,” says Michael Winter, Customer Solutions Manager, Loscam Australia.

“As proud sponsors for the third consecutive year, we aim to connect with delegates and showcase Loscam’s commitment to sustainability and CSR.”

The event will highlight cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices shaping the future of global logistics. Attendees can look forward to seeing the latest advancements from top industry players across supply chain management, logistics, freight, material handling, transport, and telematics.

“Our networking lounge and stand at MEGATRANS 2024 will align closely with the event’s sustainability focus, which we view as a fantastic initiative,” says Michael.

“We’re showcasing our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint through our stand’s design, featuring pallets turned from red to green to highlight our use of sustainably sourced timber. Our popular network pallet bars will emphasise this message, alongside our broader commitment to reducing one-way packaging and promoting reusable solutions.

“Additionally, we utilise rainwater harvesting for washing operations and maximise solar energy to further reduce our carbon footprint. It’s all part of our holistic approach to sustainability in both our products and services.”

Pink pallet campaign

In October 2024, Loscam will host its ninth annual Pink Pallet Campaign, building on past success with hundreds of participating customers and funds raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and Breast Cancer Foundation NZ (BCFNZ).

The campaign, spanning Loscam’s networks in Australia and New Zealand, features unique pink pallets mixed with millions of standard red ones. Customers who spot a pink pallet can register it by sending a photo to Loscam. For every image received, Loscam donates AUD $100 or NZD $100 to the foundation to support the cause and raise awareness and funds.

“The Pink Pallet Campaign was established in memory of a colleague who passed away from breast cancer a decade ago. To honour her and enhance our corporate social responsibility, we formed a CSR committee and launched the campaign nine years ago”, adds Michael.

“Our Pink Pallet Campaign has grown into a widely supported initiative. Customers frequently reach out to us for pink pallets to host their events, which is fantastic. Additionally, we run an online fundraiser and in-depot events, such as morning teas and barbecues, to raise funds.

“We also sell #LoscamPinkPallet merchandise, including mini pink pallets, coffee mugs, notebooks, pens, and holders, with all profits going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

“This year, we’re excited to introduce hot pink Frank Green water bottles at MEGATRANS to complement a drinking water station that will be used for refills, aligning with our sustainability goals.”

Track and trace

Loscam Live – a track-and-trace solution designed to revolutionise asset management was launched in 2024. This innovative portal integrates seamlessly with Loscam’s systems, offering real-time and historical tracking of both Loscam and customer-owned assets across Australia and New Zealand.

Utilising advanced IoT technology, Loscam Live enhances operational efficiency by providing precise location data, minimising the risk of equipment loss, and ensuring full visibility throughout the supply chain.

“This end-to-end solution mitigates equipment loss risks with precise geo-location and optimises asset utilisation by identifying bottlenecks in the supply chain,” says Michael.

“Loscam Live is particularly effective for high-value assets such as our IDCs, foldable bins, and GPAK steel cage stillages. These assets are crucial and losing them can lead to significant compensation risks. By using our tracking solution, we effectively mitigate and reduce the risk of such losses.

“Our small, lightweight tracking devices use Wi-Fi sniffing for accurate positioning in environments where GPS is ineffective. They offer a long battery life of five to seven years and connect through Sigfox’s global IoT network, eliminating roaming issues. The bespoke platform provides users with real-time and historical tracking, geo-fence alerts, and temperature and battery status notifications, ensuring comprehensive visibility and control over assets.”

This solution also provides tracking capabilities, allowing users to view both current and historical locations of assets. This feature is useful for tracking the arrival times of specific assets at various locations. The system includes alerts and notifications for geofences, so users can set up alerts to be notified if an asset enters or exits a designated area.

Additionally, Loscam Live monitors temperature and battery status, with customisable thresholds for temperature-sensitive items. For example, users can receive notifications if a refrigerated item goes outside the specified temperature range, or if the device’s battery level is low.

Loscam’s participation in MEGATRANS 2024 reinforces its role as a key player in transforming the logistics landscape.
