Australia Post has been recognised for its sustainable packaging, picking up the 2024 Sustainable Packaging Design – E-Commerce Gold award at this year’s Australasian Packaging and Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards.

Australia Post’s partnership with packaging company Sealed Air to launch a Korrvu Retention range of single and twin wine boxes took out the top award in the E-Commerce category. The boxes, comprising Korrvu® Retention packaging inserts, replace the hard-to-recycle polystyrene and bulky nest-style packaging.

Korrvu offers damage protection that rivals custom foam while being made primarily from corrugated cardboard. Offering a clean unboxing experience, Korrvu enhances sustainability by using up to 50 per cent recycled materials and being curbside recyclable.

The Sustainable Packaging Design Special Award recognises companies developing innovative packaging solutions that incorporate sustainability considerations.

Kayla Le Cornu, Australia Post’s General Manager for Retail Product & Supply Chain said the award acknowledges Australia Post’s approach to sustainability, particularly packaging.

“Reducing the impact of our packaging range is a priority. Our Retail packaging team work hard to find solutions that reduce negative environmental impacts while ensuring our packaging is fit for purpose and parcels arrive safely.

“This is a great achievement for the team and business, especially as we were up against some excellent innovators in this category,” Kayla added.

By switching to Korrvu Retention, Australia Post has revolutionised packaging for wine during distribution.

Australia Post wine boxes are recyclable via kerbside collection bins, ensuring the packaging gets a chance to be recycled into something new. They also contain 70 per cent recycled content.

This packaging highlights one component in Australia Post’s ambitions to deliver better environmental and social outcomes. Information on all the PIDA winners can be found here.
