TasPorts advances critical infrastructure works at Port of Burnie

TasPorts is progressing with infrastructure works at Berth 4 and Berth 5 at the Port of Burnie to maintain Tasmania’s freight connections.

TasPorts is progressing with essential infrastructure works at Berth 4 and Berth 5 at the Port of Burnie to maintain Tasmania’s freight connections.

TasPorts’ Group Executive – Major Projects, Assets and Technical Services, Michel de Vos, says the need for remediation at Berth 4 was identified through the asset monitoring program, which detected scouring beneath the berth.

“Minimising disruption during these works has been a priority. TasPorts has worked with key customers to develop a plan that allows Berth 5 to serve as a contingency while strengthening works are carried out at Berth 4,” de Vos says.

“Berth 4 remains operational, with engineering and prefabrication works underway. On-site construction is scheduled to begin after final approvals.”

Berth 5 ramp extension works, which started in December, are nearly complete.

“Detailed planning has been completed to ensure Berth 5 functions as a contingency berth, including mooring, fendering, and operational analysis. Additional modifications to improve contingency operations have also been identified,” de Vos says.

TasPorts is committed to delivering a safe, efficient freight network, supporting Tasmania’s supply chain and economic growth.
