Burnie Airport to receive major upgrade with $4.5m boost

Burnie Airport is set to undergo a significant upgrade, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting local industries.

Burnie Airport is set to undergo a significant upgrade, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting local industries, thanks to a $4.5 million investment from the Australian Government.

The funding, provided under the Regional Airports Program, will contribute to resurfacing and strengthening the airport’s runway, ensuring its long-term viability and safety.

Burnie Airport plays a crucial role in supporting Tasmania’s economy, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and freight. With the upgrade, the airport will be able to accommodate a broader range of aircraft, facilitating improved passenger and cargo transport.

Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King emphasised the importance of the project in strengthening regional infrastructure.

“The Australian Government is committed to investing in our regional airports to ensure they remain safe and operational for the communities and businesses that rely on them,” Minister King stated.

The investment will help safeguard Burnie Airport’s role in Tasmania’s transport network, benefiting businesses and residents alike. The resurfacing works will improve reliability, ensuring the airport can continue to serve as a key gateway for the region.

The Regional Airports Program has been instrumental in upgrading critical aviation infrastructure across Australia, with Burnie Airport being one of the latest beneficiaries.

This upgrade aligns with broader federal initiatives to enhance regional transport networks, improve safety, and support economic growth across Tasmania and beyond.
