CTAA welcomes Patrick Terminals’ Enterprise Agreement roll-over

The Container Transport Alliance has welcomed Patrick Terminals’ roll-over of its Enterprise Agreement with the Maritime Union of Australia.

The Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) has welcomed Patrick Terminals’ announcement of a historic agreement roll-over with the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), extending the company’s Enterprise Agreement through to 31 December 2028.

Patrick Terminals CEO, Michael Jovicic, described the development as a significant milestone. “This historic agreement roll-over provides a strong foundation for the future, ensuring stability for our employees and certainty for our customers in an increasingly dynamic global environment,” he said.

Jovicic added that Patrick Terminals remains committed to delivering “resilient and reliable services” to both quayside and landside customers, and that the agreement demonstrates the company’s ongoing focus on productive workplace relations and long-term value creation.

The Enterprise Agreement will be submitted to the Fair Work Commission for approval.

The announcement coincides with recent landside performance statistics released by Patrick Terminals, showing significant improvements in truck turnaround times across its Australian terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Fremantle. Since 2007, landside performance has improved considerably while volumes have increased by more than one million TEUs.

Patrick Terminals’ truck turnaround times also compare favourably with international ports such as Los Angeles and Felixstowe.

CTAA noted its ongoing collaboration with Patrick Terminals through Landside Efficiency Group discussions, which have promoted better understanding between container transport operators and terminal management. These forums have facilitated dialogue on terminal investment impacts and allowed transport operators to raise operational concerns.

Patrick Terminals is the only Australian terminal operator that voluntarily shares performance metrics online on a regular and transparent basis.
