JD Logistics establishes high-tech fulfilment centre in Melbourne

Global supply chain solutions provider JD Logistics has launched a high-tech fulfilment centre in Derrimut, cementing Victoria’s position as a central hub in its Australian logistics network.

A subsidiary of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com, JD Logistics is known for its expertise in warehouse automation, intelligent logistics, and robotics. The new Derrimut site features advanced robotics and fully automated systems, serving as a major hub for sorting and dispatching goods across sectors including retail, agrifood, clean energy, and consumer electronics.

Victoria’s strategic strengths—strong infrastructure, economic diversity, and policy stability—were key factors in JD’s decision. “Their professional guidance and deep understanding of Victoria’s logistics landscape played a critical role in helping establish a solid presence in the region,” said Ethan Ju, Head of JD Logistics Australia, acknowledging Invest Victoria’s support throughout the process.

The state’s connectivity and established role as Australia’s premier logistics and distribution base made it an ideal location for JD’s long-term expansion. The Derrimut facility adds significant capacity and operational efficiency to JD’s local supply chain footprint, enhancing delivery speed and service capabilities.

JD Logistics initially faced challenges with brand visibility and site selection. Invest Victoria, which began engagement with JD in 2021, provided tailored market insights, property options, and cost analysis to help overcome these barriers. The collaboration helped fast-track JD’s market entry and prepare the groundwork for resilient growth.

The Derrimut opening marks a major step in JD Logistics’ international strategy. A second facility is already planned to support rising demand in the region, underscoring Victoria’s importance as a gateway for next-generation logistics innovation.

JD Logistics was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2021 and continues to expand its presence across global markets, bringing its advanced automation capabilities to new territories like Australia.
