NORDEN secures first Australian port logistics contract with KMG

Danish shipping and logistics company NORDEN has signed its first port logistics contract in Australia, strengthening its partnership with Kimberley Metals Group (KMG) and expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

The project, based at the port of Wyndham in Western Australia, will see NORDEN support KMG’s iron ore operations by providing additional assets for the site’s transshipment activities. This involves loading iron ore from the port onto barges, which then transfer the cargo onto ocean-going vessels.

“We are excited to continue the growth of NORDEN’s logistics activities by entering into an agreement with KMG, taking our existing partnership to a new level by combining our freight services with our expertise within logistics to optimise KMG’s entire port-to-port supply chain,” said Anne Jensen, Chief Operating Officer at NORDEN.

The agreement includes a fixed-term charter arrangement with an option to extend, and the first barge under the contract is expected to launch in July 2025.

This marks a significant development in NORDEN’s strategy to build out its integrated logistics offering. The company has increasingly focused on combining freight solutions with tailored logistics services to provide end-to-end support for commodity exporters and importers.

“The new agreement is a natural next step on NORDEN’s strategic journey within logistics, servicing customers on a deeper level and becoming even more relevant to them, continuously using the strong synergies across NORDEN’s integrated freight solutions,” Jensen added.

The project also gives NORDEN a strategic entry point into the Australian logistics market, where it will continue to explore opportunities for growth alongside both new and existing customers.

NORDEN’s move into Australian port logistics follows its recent expansion in other regions, reflecting the company’s broader ambitions to be a full-service partner in global commodity logistics.

With demand for iron ore exports continuing to shape bulk commodity trade flows, the Wyndham project highlights the importance of scalable and flexible logistics solutions in supporting resource sector growth.
