Kmart has unveiled plans to build a $200 million Omnichannel Fulfilment Centre in Sydney’s west, as part of its long-term strategy to double revenue to $20 billion over the next decade.
The 100,000 square metre facility will be developed at ESR’s Intermodal Precinct in Moorebank, a key logistics hub in southwest Sydney. The centre will support both Kmart and its sister retailer Target, with the aim of modernising the group’s supply chain and enhancing delivery speed, flexibility and efficiency across the network.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, the project is expected to create more than 1,300 jobs during construction and operational phases. Once operational, it will play a critical role in enabling Kmart Group to deliver a more seamless omnichannel experience for customers across Australia and New Zealand.
“This commitment is an exciting milestone and represents a significant investment in our future supply chain,” said John Gualtieri, CEO of Kmart and Target. “By modernising our fulfilment capabilities, we’re increasing speed, efficiency and flexibility across our network.”
“With nearly 450 stores across Australia and New Zealand, our store network for Kmart and Target remains a core part of our customer offering,” he added. “This new facility is key to delivering a seamless omnichannel experience, ensuring customers receive the products they need, when and how they want them.”
The investment reflects Kmart’s growing focus on e-commerce fulfilment, as online sales continue to climb and customer expectations around delivery speed intensify. The Moorebank site is strategically positioned to take advantage of intermodal transport links, supporting both national and last-mile logistics.
The Moorebank Intermodal Precinct is forecast to deliver around $11 billion in economic benefits over the next 30 years, including $3.5 billion for the southwest Sydney region.
Construction is expected to ramp up in the coming months, with the fulfilment centre set to become a cornerstone of Kmart’s evolving logistics and customer delivery strategy.
