Upgrades to the Grange Burn Bridge on the Henty Highway, near Hamilton, Victoria, is now completed.
The bridge upgrades will allow heavier loads to travel safely along this main freight route, supporting forestry, wind farming, mineral sands and dairy production industries.
“We’ve reinforced the structure of the bridge to ensure strength and durability and to facilitate heavy vehicle movements, including super loads,” says Jacinta Ermacora, Victorian member for Western Victoria.
Around 2,000 vehicles use this stretch of road every day, including more than 300 heavy vehicles.
“We know the Henty Highway caters to a wide range of vehicles and this project will enable all motorists to use the road more safely,” says Melissa Horne, Victorian minister for Ports and Freight.
The main upgrades include strengthening the bridge and resurfacing the road, installing new barriers on the bridge and rebuilding the pedestrian footpath.
“The Grange Burn Bridge is on a critical freight route linking south-western Victoria, the Port of Portland and the South Australian border – that’s why we’ve invested in its long-term durability,” says Catherine King, federal minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
“The Albanese Government is supporting much-needed upgrades in Victoria, including the Grange Burn Bridge, to create sustainable road networks that prioritise safety for all users,” says Raff Ciccone, senator for Victoria.
