Transport for NSW has announced a $2.24 billion infrastructure program to transform three major arterial roads in Western Sydney, ahead of the opening of the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.
Jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments, the investment aims to support the region’s growing population, new employment hubs, and increasing freight and commuter traffic. The program includes major upgrades to Elizabeth Drive, Mamre Road Stage 2, and Garfield Road East.
Transport for NSW is now calling on experienced contractors to register their interest in designing and delivering the critical works.
Elizabeth Drive, used by more than 28,000 vehicles daily, will receive an $800 million upgrade. The project will convert key sections into a two-lane dual carriageway from Devonshire Road towards Badgerys Creek Road, with intersection improvements to enhance access to surrounding areas including Luddenham and the emerging Bradfield city.
Mamre Road Stage 2 will receive a $1 billion upgrade, continuing works underway in Stage 1. The project will improve the corridor from Erskine Park Road to Kerrs Road, a vital connection through Western Sydney’s expanding employment zone. Early investigation works are already in progress.
Garfield Road East, a key link for the North West Growth Area, will undergo a $440 million transformation. The upgrade between Piccadilly Street and Windsor Road will see the road widened into a two-lane dual carriageway, improving access and livability as new housing developments ramp up.
Environmental assessments for all three projects are expected to go on public display later this year, with construction to follow community consultation.
