Australia Post is accelerating its sustainability journey with the rollout of 500 next-generation electric delivery vehicles ahead of the busy holiday peak.
The introduction of the new three-wheeled Rapide 3 marks a major step in the company’s national fleet modernisation program, designed to enhance safety, efficiency and environmental performance.
Built for Australian conditions, the Rapide 3 offers improved handling, stability, and speed, capable of reaching 80 km/h and travelling up to 180 kilometres on a single charge. With the capacity to carry up to 150 small parcels – a 400 per cent increase on the previous Honda motorbike – the vehicles will enable Posties to complete more deliveries in fewer trips while reducing emissions and noise in local communities.
Paul Graham, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Australia Post, said the rollout reflects a long-term commitment to sustainable operations. “This rollout is part of a broader transformation as we build the Australia Post of the future – one that is safer, more sustainable and ready to meet the changing needs of our customers,” he says.
The vehicles are supported by purpose-built charging infrastructure across 37 sites nationwide, allowing for end-of-round recharging and seamless daily use. Electric vehicles within the Australia Post network now travel more than 29 million kilometres each year, contributing to the organisation’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Training programs are currently underway to familiarise Posties with the new technology, ensuring a smooth transition to an all-electric future for one of Australia’s most recognisable delivery fleets.
