Jungheinrich is highlighting the growing role of tugger trains as a safe, efficient, and flexible material transport solution for a range of industrial environments – from production facilities and warehouses to outdoor storage areas.
The company says tugger trains can streamline internal logistics by allowing multiple pallets or loads to be transported in a single trip, helping to save time, energy, and operational costs. Jungheinrich’s portfolio includes tow tractors with towing capacities ranging from one to 28 tonnes, which can be paired with a variety of trailers tailored to the type, weight, and handling requirements of the goods being moved.
By positioning loads behind the operator, tugger trains improve visibility and reduce the risk of collisions compared to forklifts carrying goods in front. The approach, according to Jungheinrich, supports safer operations and helps minimise workplace incidents.
Tugger trains also contribute to sustainability goals by reducing travel distances and emissions. The company notes that combining electric tow tractors with lithium-ion battery technology can deliver significant CO₂ reductions compared to traditional internal combustion equipment.
Unlike forklifts, tow tractors typically require minimal operator training and do not demand specialised licences, lowering barriers for adoption in busy facilities. Jungheinrich continues to work with selected trailer suppliers to develop bespoke tugger train systems that meet the specific logistics needs of different industries.
