Toll Group has introduced two Volvo FMe Electric 6×4 Prime Movers into its fleet to support BlueScope Steel.
Unveiled at Toll’s Arndell Park facility in Sydney on 14 October 2025, the heavy-duty electric trucks will transport steel products across BlueScope’s Sydney operations. Each vehicle delivers a range of up to 270 kilometres per charge and can haul 26.5 tonnes, offering an annual carbon reduction of 192 tonnes compared with diesel equivalents.
The initiative forms part of Toll’s $67 million investment in battery-electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure, co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through its ‘Driving the Nation’ program. The investment aims to deploy 28 electric vehicles across Toll’s national fleet, helping demonstrate the commercial viability of zero-emission road freight at scale.
Michael Rugendyke, President of Toll Group – Resources & Industrials, says the collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to sustainability and innovation.
“By integrating the Volvo Electric Prime Movers into our operations, we’re demonstrating that electric heavy vehicles are not just a future vision—they’re a viable, real-world solution available today.”
BlueScope’s National Manager Supply Chain, Jeff Moore, says the partnership reflects the steelmaker’s broader climate ambitions. “Decarbonising transport is essential to achieving our climate goals. Working with Toll and Volvo allows us to take meaningful action on reducing emissions while continuing to deliver for our customers.”
Now in active service, the electric prime movers are not only cutting emissions but also providing operational data to inform future low-emission logistics initiatives across Australia’s industrial supply chain.
