The Australian and NSW Governments have unveiled early designs for Stage 2 of the $1 billion Mamre Road upgrade, a critical project aimed at improving freight flow and road safety across Western Sydney’s fast-growing logistics belt.
Stretching 6.1 km between Erskine Park Road and Kerrs Road, the upgraded arterial will expand Mamre Road to two lanes in each direction, supporting safer and more efficient access to the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and surrounding industrial zones including Erskine Park, Kemps Creek and the Mamre Road Precinct.
The corridor currently moves around 20,000 vehicles daily, a figure expected to double by 2041 as the Aerotropolis and Mamre Road business precinct continue to grow. The proposed upgrades include new traffic lights with pedestrian crossings, improved drainage, shared paths for active transport, and better bus stop facilities.
Importantly for the freight and logistics sector, the project strengthens the critical connection between the M4 Motorway and Elizabeth Drive, creating a smoother passage for trucks servicing Western Sydney’s warehouse and distribution centres.
Stage 2 builds on the $290 million Stage 1 works already underway and complements other major Western Sydney road projects such as the $2.1 billion M12 Motorway, $800 million in Elizabeth Drive upgrades, and the $1 billion Fifteenth Avenue corridor transformation.
Pending planning approval, construction is expected to commence in 2026, with completion slated for 2029. Community feedback on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is open now and will help shape the final design.
