Defence’s Global Supply Chain (GSC) Program continues to expand, securing more opportunities for Australian businesses and generating more than $2.35 billion worth of contracts for 307 local Defence suppliers.
The GSC Program supports major Defence companies, known as ‘primes’, to increase the number of Australian suppliers within their global supply chains and create export pathways for domestically produced capabilities. Assistant Secretary, Industry Policy and International Engagement Branch, Liane Pettitt, says the program’s ongoing growth is delivering important outcomes for Australian industry.
“The 2024 increase from seven to 13 major Defence companies now participating in the program has enabled more Australian businesses to diversify their revenue streams, achieve greater economies of scale and strengthen their capacity and resilience through export, leading to a more sustainable and competitive sovereign industry base,” Ms Pettitt says.
Over the past 12 months, the program has seen an increase in contracts of nearly 30 per cent, exceeding $412 million and welcoming approximately 50 new Australian suppliers. According to Defence, this expansion aligns with the Defence Industry Development Strategy by providing businesses with greater access to broader export markets and ensuring a steady pipeline of future work.
Boeing, the first Defence industry partner to join Australia’s GSC Program, has awarded a record $1 billion worth of contracts to Australian suppliers through the initiative. This milestone demonstrates the scale of opportunities being generated and the depth of local capability now feeding into global supply chains.
Ms Pettitt says Defence is proud of the program’s progress as it continues to identify export opportunities for Australian suppliers and supports the development of world-class Defence capabilities for the Australian Defence Force.
The GSC Program continues to strengthen Australia’s Defence industry as a key capability enabler, supporting national security by delivering and sustaining the capabilities Defence relies on.
