Asahi Holdings has received regulatory clearance to proceed with a long-term lease for a new warehouse development in Redbank, south-west of Brisbane.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a Phase 1 determination allowing the acquisition to be put into effect, following its assessment under section 51ABZE of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
Asahi proposes to enter into an agreement for lease with Goodman’s GTA Industrial Custodian, the trustee for the Redbank River Park Industrial Trust, covering sites at 14 Montgomery Street and 43 Weedman Street. Goodman will construct the warehouse at the vacant lots, which form part of the broader Redbank Motorway Estate, a major industrial precinct approximately 30 kilometres from Brisbane.
In its determination, the ACCC found the transaction would not have the effect of substantially lessening competition in any market. The regulator concluded there is no horizontal competitive overlap between the parties, suitable alternative sites remain available for rival beverage and FMCG operators, and the arrangement does not restrict competitive activity.
The acquisition provides Asahi with additional industrial footprint to support its Australian operations, which span alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and food products through subsidiaries including Asahi Lifestyle Beverages and Carlton & United Breweries. Goodman continues to expand its development activity across key logistics locations, with the proposed Redbank facility adding to its portfolio of warehouses, distribution centres, and industrial assets.
Parties dissatisfied with the determination may seek review through the Australian Competition Tribunal within 14 days of its publication on the ACCC acquisitions register.
