Australia Post has opened its newest parcel delivery centre in Jandakot, Perth, ahead of what is expected to be a busier-than-usual festive season for Western Australia.
The 16,000-square-metre facility is set to process up to 48,000 parcels per day, scaling to around 67,000 parcels per day following the Cyber sales period and through to Christmas.
The site consolidates five southern metropolitan facilities into one, creating a more efficient delivery network and accommodating more than 210 vans. Its delivery catchment stretches from Fremantle to Perth Airport in the north, and Mandurah and Byford in the south, supporting two of the state’s most active online shopping postcodes.
According to Australia Post’s most recent Quarterly eCommerce report, Mandurah and Success recorded the highest online shopping volumes in the July to September quarter, with more than 850,000 Western Australian households shopping online.
Head of Western Australia Operations, Angus Becsi, said the opening represents an important milestone in Australia Post’s broader plan to strengthen its state-wide network.
“The investment into the new Jandakot facility ensures customers and businesses across WA benefit from greater reliability, simplicity and choice during the busiest time of year,” he says.
“Jandakot is the first stage in our long-term vision to strengthen the WA network, supporting the eCommerce boom and helping us deliver parcels faster and more efficiently across the state.”
The Jandakot Parcel Delivery Centre integrates the full suite of Australia Post delivery services, including Express Post, Parcel Post, Metro next-day delivery and StarTrack Premium, supporting faster and more coordinated parcel movements across Perth’s southern corridor.
Australia Post has also released its recommended last-sending dates for Christmas. Customers in WA, the Northern Territory, Tasmania and regional or remote areas are encouraged to allow extra time, while metro customers should aim to send Parcel Post by 22 December for same-state deliveries, 19 December for interstate, and Express Post by 23 December. Letters and cards should be sent by 18 December within the same state and by 16 December interstate.
