Port of Auckland Limited has agreed to sell its Nexus Logistics subsidiary to Qube Holdings as part of a strategic shift to focus on its core port operations.
The sale will see the Australian-listed supply chain operator acquire the Nexus business, brand, and operating plant and equipment. The Port of Auckland will retain ownership of the Wiri site, which will be leased back to Nexus Logistics under a long-term agreement.
Port of Auckland CEO Roger Gray says the transaction comes at the right time for both organisations, reflecting strong recent performance at Nexus.
“This sale occurs at the right time for both the Port of Auckland and Nexus, with the team led by Darcy Hart delivering strong momentum, commercial results and customer centric solutions,” says Roger.
“With Qube taking ownership, their capability, reach and scale will help propel Nexus to the next level. To ensure continuity and long-term value for our stakeholders, the port has agreed a long-term strategic partnership with Nexus under Qube’s ownership as part of the sale,” he says.
Qube’s Director of Logistics and Infrastructure, John Digney, says the acquisition strengthens the group’s New Zealand footprint following its earlier purchases of ISO Limited in 2017 and the Pinnacle Group in 2023.
“The acquisition of Nexus further enhances Qube’s NZ portfolio and will support the expansion of Qube’s container logistics offering in Auckland, supported by a long-term lease at the South Auckland Freight Hub,” John says.
Nexus provides fully integrated container logistics services across New Zealand, spanning rail and road transport, storage, wharf cartage, and port operations. Following completion, CEO Darcy Hart and his leadership team will remain in place to ensure continuity for customers and staff.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to complete on or around 1 December 2025.
