Federal Express Corporation has appointed Salil Chari as president of its Asia Pacific region, effective 1 January 2026, reinforcing the company’s focus on growth, resilience and customer experience across one of its most strategically important markets.
Chari steps into the role after serving as senior vice president of Marketing and Customer Experience, Asia Pacific. He succeeds Kawal Preet, who has transitioned into the role of executive vice president, Planning, Engineering, and Transformation, with responsibility for advancing FedEx’s global transformation agenda.
As regional president, Chari will shape the strategic direction of FedEx’s Asia Pacific business and lead a workforce of nearly 30,000 team members across the region. His remit includes driving profitable growth, strengthening operational performance, and delivering consistent customer outcomes across diverse and fast-growing trade corridors.
Richard W. Smith, chief operating officer, international and chief executive officer, airline, FedEx, says the appointment reflects the company’s confidence in Chari’s leadership and regional expertise.
“I am excited to welcome Salil as the new president of Asia Pacific, marking an exciting new chapter for our APAC business,” Smith says. “Salil brings exceptional multi-regional leadership experience and a passion for delivering value to customers. With his deep understanding of the region, I am confident he will lead our APAC business to new heights and reinforce the region’s importance to our global growth.”
Chari’s appointment continues FedEx’s long-standing practice of developing leaders internally. He joined the company in 1997 as a marketing analyst in Memphis and has since held senior leadership roles across Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, and Africa.
Speaking on his appointment, Chari says Asia Pacific sits at the centre of global trade and presents significant opportunity for customers navigating increasingly complex supply chains.
“It is an honor to lead such a talented team in a region that sits at the center of global trade,” Chari says. “My priority is to strengthen resilience, accelerate growth, and deepen the role FedEx plays as a valued partner for our customers and communities.”
The leadership transition comes as FedEx continues to invest in its Asia Pacific network to support evolving customer needs and global trade flows.
