Australia Post has announced it will construct four new purpose-built regional facilities in South Australia, expanding its delivery network in Murray Bridge, Kadina, Port Pirie and Tanunda.
The company says the new sites will increase parcel capacity and improve delivery speed across some of the state’s fastest-growing regional centres.
Australia Post reports online shopping in South Australia has risen 4.9 per cent year-on-year, including a 9 per cent increase during the November to December peak period.
Each of the new facilities is expected to process between 2,000 and 3,700 parcels per day, with the aim of improving delivery reliability and reducing delivery times for customers.
All four sites will be equipped with rooftop solar systems to maximise local energy generation and will support EV charging infrastructure for Australia Post’s electric vehicle fleet.
Australia Post Executive General Manager Network Operations Shane Plant says the investment reflects the organisation’s long-term commitment to supporting regional communities.
“With 80 per cent of South Australian households now shopping online, parcel volumes in regional areas continue to grow,” Plant says.
Construction is already underway at all four facilities, with opening dates scheduled across mid-2026:
-
Murray Bridge (1,143m²), expected to open in June 2026
-
Kadina (1,111m²), expected to open in July 2026
-
Port Pirie (836m²), expected to open in July 2026
-
Tanunda (1,335m²), expected to open in August 2026
Australia Post says the four-site development is part of its broader investment in South Australia, following its previously announced $500 million Parcel Super Hub planned for Adelaide, scheduled to open in 2028.
