FedEx has opened a new purpose-built logistics facility in Bundaberg, strengthening regional freight connections and supporting businesses across Queensland’s Wide Bay-Burnett region.
FedEx has opened a new purpose-built logistics facility in Bundaberg, Queensland, as part of its ongoing investment in regional logistics capability.
The 5,962-square-metre facility is located near Bundaberg Airport and the region’s expanding industrial precinct. FedEx says the site will improve access for surrounding communities including Gin Gin, Childers and Biggenden, while providing businesses across the Wide Bay-Burnett region with more direct access to domestic and international markets.
The facility is designed to support key regional industries including agriculture, fresh produce, seafood, manufacturing and e-commerce.
It includes an automated conveyor system capable of sorting up to 1,500 packages per hour, reducing sorting time by up to 30 per cent. The site also features dedicated trailer zones, streamlined Brisbane-to-Bundaberg linehaul routes, a telescopic conveyor system and a large weather-protected awning for heavyweight freight.
“This investment marks an important step in strengthening our network across regional Australia and deepening how we support local businesses,” says Peter Langley, regional vice president of FedEx Australasia.
“By bringing faster, more reliable services closer to customers in Bundaberg and the surrounding region, we are enabling regional enterprises from family farms to small businesses, to access global markets with the same speed and confidence as their metropolitan competitors.”
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn says the facility is a significant milestone for the region.
“This direct infrastructure investment into the Bundaberg Region will strengthen supply chain capability, support local employment, and create new economic opportunities for not only our community but the greater Wide Bay area,” she says.
The site also includes an on-site small business shipping hub, giving local operators access to shipping services, documentation support and customs processing.
James Rains, Warehouse Manager at Aletek Advanced Exhaust Technologies, says the new facility will improve access to FedEx services and support greater reliability across the company’s freight operations.
Aligned with FedEx’s global goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040, the Bundaberg facility includes energy-efficient LED lighting, skylights and weather-protected freight handling areas.
FedEx says the facility forms part of its broader investment in strengthening its network across regional Australia, connecting communities and expanding access to global trade.
