Former Western Australian Government Minister Bill Johnston has been appointed Chair of the Freight and Logistics Council of WA.
Bill succeeds Megan McCracken, who had served in the role since June 2021.
Established in 2009, the Freight and Logistics Council of WA provides strategic advice on issues affecting the state’s freight and logistics industry. Its members are appointed by the Minister for Transport, with the council representing industry and advising the WA Government on strategic freight and logistics activities.
Bill brings extensive government and industry experience to the role, having served as a senior WA Government Minister across several portfolios before retiring in 2025.
As Minister for Mines and Petroleum, he oversaw record resource industry exports, while as Minister for Energy, he delivered significant government investment in renewable energy generation and storage.
He also held the Industrial Relations portfolio, where he delivered reforms for workers across the state.
Bill currently serves on several boards, including the McKell Institute, the Burswood Park Board and the Gaming and Wagering Commission.
WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti says Bill’s experience will support the council’s work across the state’s freight and logistics sector.

“In a state as large as Western Australia, co-ordination of our freight and logistics operations are critical and the FLCWA plays an important role in facilitating effective engagement across government and industry.
“Bill brings a depth of experience to the position that will be invaluable to support an efficient, resilient and sustainable freight and logistics system.
