Queensland Rail looks to the future with Quintiq

Quintiq, a Dassault Systems company and a global leader in rail solution planning and optimisation, announced today that Queensland Rail has selected its planning software to be a part of its Integrated Train Operation Solution (ITOPS).

The Quintiq solution will assist Queensland Rail to effectively and efficiently manage its existing train fleet as well as the soon to be introduced New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) fleet.

NGR consists of an order of 75 new six-car trains and the construction of a new maintenance centre to service them for the next 30 years.

The NGR project is the largest sinle investment by Queensland in trains and will boost commuter services for the densely populated areas of South East Queensland.

The significant increase to the train fleet is to meet growing demand and demonstrates the government's commitment to public transport in Queensland.

Queensland Rail has also established a new Rail Management Centre (RMC) to help manage the growing fleet and complexity of managing the metropolitan rail network.

The Quintiq platform will play a key role in the new RMC, such as Electronic Train Graphs (ETGs) and delivery of dynamic timetabling and fleet allocation capabilities.

This will enhance the network's incident management and recovery capabilities and optimise train operations.

"The ITOPS Project really is a 'once in a generation' opportunity to provide our organisation with the tools we need for the future. It will be an exciting journey that will enhance our operational efficiency and optimise customer outcomes" said Kevin Wright, Chief Operating Officer, Queensland Rail.

"Passenger rail and rail freight are core sectors for Quintiq," said Paul Shepard, Vice President of Quintiq Australia and New Zealand.

"Queensland Rail's decision to select Quintiq validates our investment and focus in these complex and dynamic sectors. We are proud to have them join our rail portfolio which includes Transport for London, NTV, Eurailscout and Sydney Trains. These leaders recognize the value of automation and optimisation to improve their planning across multiple time horizons -from strategic long-term planning to disruption management on day-of-operations."

In 2014, Quintiq and Sydney Trains won the Sydney Engineering Excellence Award (SEEA) and were named finalists in the national Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA) for the Fleet Allocation and Recording System (FARS).

Terrapinn: Over 1,000 rail leaders head to Hong Kong for Asia pacific rail 2016

Asia's rail industry is poised for serious growth. With over 6,500km of rail projects currently planned or announced in Asia, billions are being invested into the region.

But there are still challenges to overcome –we need infrastructure upgrades, we need to improve cost management of these mega projects, and of course, we need to deliver on passengers' increasing expectations as we move into the age of the smart digital railway.

Returning for the 18th year in Hong Kong this March 2016, Asia Pacific Rail will bring rail leaders from across the globe together under one roof to tackle these challenges head on. In 2016, the event will be bigger and better than ever before, with more content, more speakers, more networking, a larger exhibition and over 1,000 attendees.

The two day conference will feature exciting innovations in metro, high-speed rail, mainline passenger and freight, all focused on the theme of enhancing operational excellence and passenger experience to improve your bottom line.

Sharing their insights are senior leaders from MTR, London Underground, Auckland Transport, China Railways, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Hyperloop Technologies, Myanmar Railways, Heathrow Express, SMRT Corporation, Seoul Line 9 Operation, State Railway of Thailand, Sydney Trains, Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation.

Alongside the senior level conference, the exhbition will feature over 35 exhibitors, 20 technical seminar presentations and up to 1,000 attendees walking the floor.
